The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
Great tacos that are full of flavor in a fun environment. (3 locations in San Francisco: Marina, North Beach, and the Mission and 1 location in Palo Alto.)
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
Tacolicious is a modern, trendy shop that makes gourmet tacos. Their upscale twist on the classics are fun and tasty. All locations are relatively small and accommodate smaller parties better, they each have bar and table seating. Their menu features various starters, some specialty tacos, a handful of sides and a few desserts. I hardly make it to dessert, but the usual is a few margaritas (or a Mucho Gusto – coconut and pineapple with tequila), guacamole and some tacos.
The tacos are great! They are pricier than your normal taco, but the quality and preparation is evident and they are always really well served. My favorites are the braised beef short rib and the fish. You can get 1 for $4.50, 4 for $16 or 10 for $36. The tacos come with three salsas on the side (mild, medium and spicy), I like the mild one because I usually prefer green salsa. Oh and I forgot to mention, you are greeted with chips and salsa! The salsa, although not very authentic, is pretty addicting so make sure you leave space for the yummy tacos.
The braised beef is great because it’s thinly shredded and it just melts in your mouth. The guajillo gives it such a rich flavor, that all you really need is a little cilantro and onion. It tastes so good that this is often the only taco Dennis orders. While I really like the short rib, I enjoy the fish a lot! The pacific cod is perfectly fried and the cabbage and cumin cream add such a fresh and tasty topping. The pickled onions and green salsa create such a great flavor and the batter is complementing, but not overpowering. I also like that the fish tacos are a lighter option and don’t leave me stuff, just perfectly satisfied.
