The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
Amazing crab – a must try in SF! Read: If you’re going for dinner, make a reservation!
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
I have been going to R & G Lounge for years now. My family and I first tried it on one of their visits to San Francisco when I was in college. My dad still makes it a point to ALWAYS visit anytime he’s in town. Even with three floors full of seating, the restaurant gets booked up so I highly suggest a reservation. The service is very good and they are always attentive.
What we ate:
- Chow Mein ($12)
- Salt and Pepper Crab ($MP)
The deep fried salt and pepper crab is the real winner; it’s what brings us back to this restaurant time and time again. Is it messy? Yes. Is it healthy? No. But it’s DELICIOUS! Grab a piece, eat the perfectly crispy batter and then crack it open and indulge in lots and lots of crab. It is filling and definitely shareable. I wouldn’t recommend devouring it alone, but if you do – we should meet 🙂 They sell a ridiculous number a day and with good reason, I can’t remember the exact number now but it’s over 1000. If that doesn’t prove it’s good, I dare you to try it!
I ALWAYS order chow mein, no good Chinese meal is complete without it. Whether in a to-go container, Sex In The City style or at a formal restaurant – it’s a must. Their chow mein is tasty, not too greasy and very flavorful.
Another great item is the peking duck – it’s not too fatty, crispy and extra delicious!
