Due to the short distance between Pizzeria Picco and my apartment, I often find myself suggesting it when mealtime rolls around, but it’s not just the short distance that motivates me to go.
The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
The pizza is delicious and, if open, you can order off the Picco menu (bonus!). (Beware: Pizzeria Picco does not take reservations!)
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
Pizzeria Picco has topped a number of “best” lists with good reason, the pizza is thin-crusted deliciousness. The restaurant is very small, 6 tables outside and a few bar stools inside. The smaller the party, the better, but you can order to go or buy their flash frozen pizza, which tastes pretty darn close to their fresh ones. The customer service is a toss-up, I have had really nice waiters or, like my recent trip, gotten the I’m-super-busy-and-super-cool type.
Another bonus is if Picco, the restaurant next door, is open you can order off their menu as well (however, it doesn’t work the other way around). This is nice if you want the yummy starters, pastas, or risottos from next door because Pizzeria Picco only has pizzas and salads.

What we ate:
- Gnocchi ($21.95)
- Margherita pizza ($15.50)
Dennis and I decided to get the best of both worlds and share a pizza from Pizzeria Picco and the gnocchi from Picco. Let me preface my thoughts of the dish by explaining that we have been looking for a gnocchi that can mimic the taste of the various gnocchi dishes we had in Italy. The gnocchi dishes I have had before going to Italy were all a little flavorless and, therefore, it was never my go-to dish. However, during our trip I fell in love with both gnocchi and pesto (calling it an obsession may not be too far-fetched) and have been looking for something equally tasty since. (Enter Picco!) While the pieces were bigger and the texture much more potato-y, I really loved this dish. It was so flavorful and tasty and the sauce complemented the gnocchi so well. I was really ooo-ing and ahh-ing after every bite. The gnocchi was topped with house-made fennel sausage, erbette chard, wild mushrooms, black truffle butter and grana padano. You could taste every ingredient coming together in an orgasmic burst of flavor.
The pizza is always delicious, we usually order the Specialized, but that has fennel sausage as well and we felt like that would be an overkill so we opted for the Margherita. It was subtle in flavor, but very good. The ingredients speak for themselves in such a simple pizza, and the quality really stood out.
Other favorites I recommend: Picco’s bruschetta with avocado and chorizo. Pizzeria Picco has soft serve ice cream with various toppings to choose from, I particularly like their vanilla with extra virgin olive oil and sea salt. The sweet and salty together with the high-quality olive oil is tasty and refreshing. Picco has great desserts as well, my favorite is their cheesecake with blueberry compote and lemon zest (they change their menu around so if you see it, it is a must order)!
