The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
This is a review for their brunch exclusively. It was delicious and I will definitely be back!
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
Brunch at Outerlands gets very busy so make sure that as soon as you get there you sign in on the list hanging by the door. The hostess will come out and call your name when your table is ready, but be prepared to wait upwards of 30 minutes. We were a larger party (5) so we waited about 45 minutes for a table. The service wasn’t particularly friendly, they were all nice, but nothing special.
I love the decor inside, the wooden walls and tables give it a very homey and rustic feel. The service itself was pretty quick, once we got seated we didn’t wait long for our food to come out.
Breakfast Mon – Fri 9am – Until they run out
Lunch Mon – Fri 10am – 3pm
Brunch Sat – Sun 9am – 3pm
Dinner Mon – Sun 5pm – 10pm
What I ate/drank:
- Tea by the pot ($5)
- Eggs in Jail ($11)
- Squash and feta open faced sandwich ($13)
- Dutch pancake with ricotta ($14)
I chose their high mountain tea which is a green tea, it was good, not super bitter. The pot gets you about 3 cups.
Eggs in jail was definitely one of the highlights of our meal. This thick-sliced toast has a hole in the middle stuffed with a fried egg. The idea is genius and the ingredients go very well together; however, I found that since the egg is in the center you should really cut the bread in half and eat it from the inside out. If you don’t, you’re really not getting much of the good stuff on the outer edges of the bread. I also found that while the presentation is nice, it doesn’t lend itself to easy eating. With all the practical points aside, though, once you get all ingredients in one bite, it’s delicious – It’s fresh and very tasty!
This is probably not something I’d order again; it was good, but the flavors didn’t pop quite like the eggs in jail. It’s still a great breakfast option, I just thought the other things were better. This is very filling and though the bread is thinner, it’s also denser so you will be full.
The dutch pancake really stole the show. We ordered one for the table and although I totally could’ve eaten 1 myself, I really liked getting both the savory and sweet. So if you go with a group or even just another person I would totally recommend ordering one for the table. It’ll go quick since it’s so light and fluffy!
I really enjoyed my breakfast and think it is worth the wait if you haven’t tried Outerlands yet. And in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, “I’ll be back”!
