LAMILL Coffee Boutique

September 20, 2016

The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:

The ricotta toast is something you CAN’T miss and definitely reason enough to go back.

The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:

If you like coffee than you are probably already familiar with LAMILL Coffee in Silver Lake (they also have a location in one of the terminals at LAX). If not, they are definitely worth checking out. The interior is cute and inviting and the laid back vibe entices you to stay. LAMILL Coffee is an order first; find seat after kind of set up and the food is brought to you. I like this no fuss approach and even though there was a bit of a line when we got there, it went quickly and I had no issue finding a seat.

Sun – Thurs  7am – 10pm
Fri – Sat   7am – 11pm

What we ate:

  • Creme Brulee Cappaccino ($6)
  • Avocado Toast ($9)
  • Ricotta Toast ($8)
  • Chicken and Waffles ($16)
  • Doughnut Holes ($6)

Although I’m not a huge coffee fan, the Creme Brulee Cappaccino sounded too good to pass up. The top of the foam was covered in bruleed sugar and that part was really good, but the coffee was very strong. Even my aunt, who is an avid coffee drinker, agreed. If you like it strong this might be the drink for you, but it’s also quite sweet because of all the sugar. Next time I’ll stick with tea 🙂 If coffee is your thing, I would give their cold brews and other varieties a try.

The avocado toast was missing something. It was good, not great. I wish there were more pickled onions and it was missing a bit of lime. I did appreciate how much avocado was used, but the flavor just wasn’t there.

The strawberry toast was AMAZING! Wow… the housemade ricotta, strawberries, honey and toasted hazelnuts made the perfect combination. I will be going back for this dish again and again. Absolute perfection. At that price, I may order 2 and call it a day.

I would like to call this dish amazing, but something is holding me back. The chicken was delicious: crispy, moist and very flavorful. The waffle, however, was a bit denser than I would’ve liked. It was a tad on the dry side, nothing maple syrup can’t fix, but I wouldn’t call it orgasmic. If you were deciding between this and the toast, there’s no comparison.

These doughnuts finished off the meal nicely. They weren’t as amazing as other doughnuts, but served warm with vanilla whipped cream, I enjoyed them.
