Tasty ramen, cheap prices and open ‘til 2 a.m., what more do you want? The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
Katana-ya, a hole-in-the-wall on Geary Street, serves sushi, huge bowls of ramen and rice bowls. The entrance is small and easy to miss, but the line that forms outside is a dead giveaway. There is definitely a cult following! If you arrive either earlier in the day or closer to closing time, you have a better chance of avoiding the crowd.
I have only tried their sushi once and I wasn’t a fan, but I keep going back for the ramen. Besides there plethora of ramen combinations you also have a choice of broth (light to rich), base (salt, miso, or soy) and spiciness.
What I ate:
- Wonton ramen
I have nothing but good things to say about Katana-ya. The broth is always right on point, not too salty and not too thick (I always order the ramen with the miso broth). The noodles have a bite and are never overcooked. The servings are also very generous. There are a lot of options to choose from, so I’m sure you will find something you like.
Fall is making itself known here in SF, so treat yourself to a good-for-the-soul bowl of ramen!
