Genki Crepes

April 6, 2015
The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
Winner.
My favorite Japanese crepe place in the city. It’s MUCH better than Sophie’s Crepes!
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:

The only thing that gives this mini-mart away is the lines that form. This unsuspecting market boasts the best Japanese crepes in town. The service is fairly quick and the payoff is real, I mean who doesn’t love a HUGE crepe filled with Nutella, strawberries and whipped cream (my go-to choice). There’s something for everyone and I promise you won’t be disappointed. There are 2 benches (one inside and the other outside) for you to sit, but they’re served in a cardboard pocket so you can eat them in the car or walk around. What I ate:

  • Nutella, strawberry and whipped cream crepe

I love crepes, especially when they’re big and portable and that is exactly what Genki delivers. These to-go crepes come in all different flavors with a myriad of toppings (including ice cream). They also offer savory crepes, but who wants those when you can get ice cream, whipped cream and Nutella?!? I’m in the business of being honest so I’ll give it to you straight… Genki’s (in my opinion) way surpasses Sophie’s Crepes. Here’s why: Sophie’s crepes are fine, but their whipped cream tastes fake (think supermarket cupcake frosting), overly sweet and chemically composed. There’s something about the flavor that throws the whole thing off and what is a crepe without whipped cream? At genki’s (while still out of a can) the whipped cream offers up the classic creamy flavor that is accompanied by enough toppings. It’s always delicious and consistent! Bonus = they are open late so you can satisfy your craving throughout the night.
