Fonuts has been on my list for a while now and for one reason or another I have never made it there. However, now that I visited I made sure to try quite a few flavors.

The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:

On the fence. (between Good not Great and Winner)
I would like to think that these are a healthier alternative and with that in mind I liked them! I like that you can eat a few without feeling like you ingested a vat of grease.

The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:

My brother, Leo, and I walked in around 1:30 on a Thursday and they still had a full selection. The lady behind the counter was super nice and very informative. She pointed out her favorites and mentioned that they were known for their blueberry and strawberry fonuts. The store has a very simple look, a bit dark and small, but perfect for grabbing fonuts and getting on your way. Outside they had 1 very cute yellow table (where I chose to take my photos), so if you need to eat there I would definitely recommend sitting outside.

What we ate:

  • Strawberry buttermilk fonut
  • Blueberry earl gray fonut
  • Peanut butter chocolate fonut
  • Chocolate hazelnut fonut
  • Red Velvet fonut
  • Raspberry fonut

Most are around $3.75

My favorite was the blueberry fonut, it was like a sweeter blueberry muffin. Great consistency (fresh and moist), actual blueberries and a delicious taste! The strawberry one was good too, it literally tasted like strawberries and cream. The hazelnut had a great taste, but the consistency was a bit chalky. The raspberry one was so moist and the raspberry glaze was very flavorful! I personally didn’t like the peanut butter, I thought the cake was a bit gritty, but then again peanut butter isn’t my favorite and since I got it for my mom, I should mention that she loved it! My least favorite (everyone else agreed) was the red velvet. The cream cheese frosting was actually really tasty, but the fonut itself was absolutely tasteless – I would definitely skip out on this one if you visit.

I enjoyed almost everything we ordered, but I’m not rushing to go back. The fact that they are baked and have vegan options is a definite plus and they are extremely tasty considering they aren’t fried. But I just don’t think it will be the first thing that comes to mind when I’m craving something sweet. It satisfied but didn’t wow.
