Eat This Cafe

The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:

Good not Great. (Unless you’re going specifically for the Irish Turkey and Egg – that’s a winner).
The sandwich was delicious, but everything else from the service to the ambiance was a little lackluster.
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
My mom and I were ready for a boozy brunch this past Sunday and heard about Eat This Cafe. Their bottomless mimosas caught my attention and their decent proximity from my house was a plus. Let’s be honest, after a Saturday out the last thing you want to do is drive 30 minutes early in the morning just to visit a hyped-about restaurant. PS: When did having brunch get so complicated? I just want to eat, not wait!We got there and were seated right away. The restaurant is a bit dark and small with minimal decor. To be honest, it’s not the minimalist yet inviting decor that is on trend right now. The service felt rushed and inattentive.

It was a bit disappointing from the get-go because we had anticipated sitting for a while with bottomless mimosas; however, the long disclaimer and the fact that they don’t have fresh squeezed orange juice really ruined it. The environment also didn’t lend itself to sitting and enjoying alcohol.

I was also pretty excited about trying their French toast. You know me, if it’s on the menu is there really any other option? No! However, when I realized the couple next to us had just finished theirs, I asked if they liked it. The lady answered they way I wish everyone would answer: honest and informative. She simply asked if I had been to Square One Dining (which, hello, of course – click here for my review); it’s good, but it’s not Square One Dining. I knew then that I had to order something else.

What we ate:

  • Pancakes ($11 +$1 for fruit)
  • Irish Turkey and Egg ($13)

We spotted this sandwich coming out of the kitchen and, as our eyes followed it to a different table, we knew we had to order it. This was delicious! Stuffed with a great mixed of bacon, turkey (lots of it), cheese and over-easy eggs on cranberry walnut bread.  It was so juicy and the egg made everything better. This was serious – I’m talking egg dripping down my hand. Everything about this was perfect and it was super filling. My mom and I shared this and we really didn’t need the pancakes – it was that hearty!
We spotted the pancakes before we ordered as well and while they looked very promising, it didn’t compare to the sandwich. They were a bit dry and the whole thing was a tad sweet. It was tasty, but nothing memorable.
