The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
One of the best white wine, seafood pastas I’ve had!
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
I have passed by Chiaroscuro a million times and I finally decided to treat myself. I walked in on a rainy afternoon and the restaurant was packed. The service was very friendly and the attention to detail was nice. They come around and serve you bread with fancy (flavored) butter and a small treat from the chef. Both extras were appreciated, those small touches really make a difference. The inside is very simple and the dining space is not huge, but it feels open and it doesn’t feel like you’re eating on top of the people next to you (a huge plus). I also like that you can see the chefs working and the dishes coming out of the kitchen. I like getting a glimpse of the chaotic inner workings of a restaurant. While the place doesn’t require formal attire, everyone is dressed at least business casual since it’s in the Financial District.
Shelling out money for food, to me, is worth every penny. Everyone has 1 thing that they don’t think twice about splurging on and my thing is food. However, lunch during the week, is not something I like spending on. Mainly because I usually take it to go and for some reason when I’m working, I get a little stingier. Needless to say, Chiaroscuro is not on the daily agenda. I am, however, super happy I went and I am ready to go back. I did soften the blow a little by using some credit I had on my Allset app* (more info and review coming tomorrow).

What I ate:
- Linguine ai frutti di mare ($23)
The pasta was amazing! Honestly, one of the best I’ve had. I love white wine seafood pastas, but they often lack flavor or are too fishy. This pasta was none of those things; it was super flavorful and the seafood was fresh and delicious. The linguine itself was also perfection; it was al dente, a little thicker and very hearty. I loved everything about this dish and would highly recommend it. I believe it’s only available for lunch, they do have another linguine for dinner, but this particular one is served only at lunchtime.
* I did reach out to the people at Allset and they agreed to give you $10 off your next meal when using the app. I am in no way compensated for this, I just know everyone could use a discount and they were nice enough to provide one. In the promotion section, simply enter LUNCH10!
