After our Halloween night festivities we stopped at Al Layali for some hookah.
The Shut-Up-and-Give-it-to-Me-Quick Version:
Good, not great.
Hookah was good, location was nice, but the service and food were just okay.
Mon-Sun 4 p.m. – 4 a.m.
The I-Like-to-be-Wrapped-Up-in-All-the-Details Version:
The rain was just coming in when we decided to stop in at Al Layali. To be honest when we got there it was weird, they had turned away the people before us and then told us it was twenty dollars per person. After my dad told him there were five of us, he said they had a special going on and let us in. Anyways, we sat down outside, which was nice because you could see everyone going to and leaving the West Hollywood Carnival of Costumes. The special was $20 for an appetizer, a combination plate and a drink or hookah. We chose 2 combinations and 2 hookahs.
What we ate/drank (and inhaled):
- Beef kabob
- Chicken kabob
- Apple flavored hookah
- Watermelon flavored hookah
- Mint tea
Our waitress was nice, you could tell they were super busy and she was flustered, but she was polite. Our food took a while to come out, the meat dish came out first and it was nothing special, it was pretty tough and chewy. The chicken dish came out a while later (sorry for the lack of a picture, everyone took a piece and the plate was empty by the time I wanted to snap a photo) and that was much better (tasty, juicy and tender). The dessert was very tasty, I am not sure what it was called because when my dad went to ask about the check he just came back with a plate of sweets, but they had a shortbread like texture and cream in the middle. It wasn’t too sweet and had a good taste. The hookah was good and the guy with the coals walked around often. The end of the night was a bit frustrating, I understand they were busy, but even with a ton of apologies, they forgot what we ordered, came to ask twice and then took over twenty minutes to bring the check.
All in all, I would go back for the hookah. The location is convenient and it was good; however, it is not a place I am dying to revisit.
